Our reowned production, The Endz is coming to Gloucester at the end of November! Inspired by a real-life tragedy, The The Endz’ debut was in 2022, before it was programmed as part of the opening weekend of the 2023 Southbank Centre’s Classical season. After winning the prestigious RPS Impact Award in 2024, an invitation then came from to perform in Salzburg, Austria’s most prestigious theatre!

Now in Gloucester with a new cast of performers and soloists, the latest production promises to balance the raw energy of its original with a fresh creative vision.

Blending the raw energy of grime, drill and Afrobeat with soulful gospel and orchestral scores, Stuck is a bold new musical that explores home and community, telling a deeply personal and politically charged story about community, nostalgia and the fight to hold onto the places – and people – that shape us.

At its core is the relationship between an ambitious young man and his barber uncle, whose shop – and way of life – are threatened by a looming redevelopment project. When a letter from the council arrives promising a bright new future, their clashing perspectives spark a battle neither of them realises is already lost. As the uncle’s early dementia brings hidden struggles to the surface, the nephew is forced to confront what home really means – before it disappears forever.

Stuck takes you beyond the big headlines and into the inner thoughts of everyday people, articulated by a powerful narrative and catchy but moving songs.

How do we love? Let us count the ways. Multi-Story Orchestra’s new orchestral and choral piece Love in Many Forms explores the varied kinds of love that shape our lives - from the thrill of first love to the warmth of family love, from love that challenges societal expectations to the love we learn to show ourselves. Love in Many Forms invites you to reflect on how love defines us.

Love in Many Forms has been created by the Orchestra’s South London based Young Creatives, with songwriter Dupri McKoy and composer Lewis Daniel. In true Multi-Story style, the performance will begin with musicians spread all around the space before coming together for the full orchestral performance, led by Music Director Yshani Perinpayagam and Choir Leader Dupri McKoy.

Multi-Story Orchestra and Mozarteum Orchestra will collaborate on a new production of The Endz in May and June.

Described as a hip-hopera, The Endz features classical orchestration, choral singing, rap, and spoken word to tell a story rooted in present day social experience. Developed by composer Kate Whitley and lyricist Abi Falase, The Endz is set against the backdrop of an inner city London neighbourhood and explores themes of exclusion, racism, identity, and community.

The Endz was inspired by a real-life tragedy: the fatal stabbing of 17-year-old Malcolm Mide-Mandariola in south London in 2018. Malcolm was unarmed and attempting to help a friend who was being threatened. His death deeply affected his community and peers. In response, his classmates collaborated with composer Kate Whitley and writer Abi Falase to develop a new artistic work, dedicated to his memory.

Limited tickets for The Endz are available on the venue’s website, salzburger-landestheater.at.

Against the vibrant backdrop of the portraiture of Mickalene Thomas a number of our young musicians will be performing their own original music in the Hayward Gallery.

In words from the exhibition, “Mickalene Thomas has become one of the most important image makers celebrating female and LGBTQIA+ empowerment. Her vibrant, large-scale portraits of Black women at rest reclaim space and representation in art history, celebrating love and radical repose.”

Over a year in the works, Singing All About Love is the product of a deep collaboration between the artist and our young people - and a rare opportunity to enjoy live music in dialogue with art.

Bottled Up is a dynamic new show from Multi-Story Orchestra, an award-winning music charity founded in 2011 by composer Kate Whitley and conductor Christopher Stark. Known for transforming traditional concert experiences, Multi-Story Orchestra stages performances in unconventional venues like Multi-Storey car parks, reaching new and diverse audiences.

Bottled Up explores the intense emotions of feeling on the brink of explosion—what happens when you’ve had enough, and what follows when you finally let it out? Led by acclaimed choir director Daniel Thomas, (Director, Bright Goes Gospel and The House Gospel Choir), the performance starts with musicians spread throughout the space in interactive performances, culminating in a powerful, full orchestral show.

In line with Multi-Story’s mission to empower young artists, the show features original compositions that reflect contemporary issues, reinforcing the orchestra's commitment to innovation and inclusivity in the orchestral music world.
