Stay On It at Millennium Point Car Park Birmingham

  • Millenium Point Car Park Birmingham (map)

We are joining forces with students from Birmingham Conservatoire to perform our own unique version of Stay On It - a joyous punchy piece of music by the ‘brazen and brilliant’ Julius Eastman.

As an openly gay Black man working in the 1970s, composer Julius Eastman often created music that took on radical political viewpoints, shaped by his own experiences of oppression. His music sounds unlike anything else you will have heard. Stay on It is a semi-improvised piece, meaning that no performance is ever the same – so this will be your one and only chance to hear our version, created by musicians from The Multi-Story Orchestra and Birmingham Conservatoire.

You’ll dive straight into the piece with our musicians spread across Millenium Point Car Park, before we come together to hear the whole orchestra perform.

Thank you!

We are so grateful to Arts Council England and Paul Hamlyn Foundation for making this event possible.

And thank you to Matthew Barley and Fraser Trainer for inventing and developing this unique model with us.
